Ray Wijewardene’s Legacy to be preserved
Colombo, 20 September 2010
The family of the late Dr Ray Wijewardene has embarked on preserving his legacy and supporting the public interest causes that were close to his heart.
A charitable trust will soon be formed to promote his vision of innovation among Sri Lankans, especially the youth. The trust will also act as the sole guardian of the Ray Wijewardene name and all that it stands for.
The Ray Wijewardene Trust will have, as its trustees, members of his family and other public-spirited Sri Lankans representing different sectors and pursuits.
“Our father was a larger than life personality who left his mark in multiple areas ranging from sustainable agriculture and aeronautics to innovation and water sports. He worked with, and helped, so many people from all walks of life. We want to ensure that his ideas are not diluted, and his name shall be used solely for projects authorized by the Trust,” says Anoma Wijewardene, the eldest daughter.
Parallel to this, an authorised biography is also being planned, for which the services of a noted Sri Lankan science writer will be engaged. A website showcasing the life and times of Ray Wijewardene is also under consideration.
As the first step, the family invites all those who associated with Ray Wijewardene to send their memories, anecdotes and photographs to this email address: <memories@raywijewardene.net>.
Alternatively, they may post the same material to Ray Wijewardene Biography, No 133, Dharmapala Mawatha, Colombo 7, Sri Lanka.
